Australia’s best performance horses on show at the 2023 Nutrien Classic

Australia’s leading campdraft competition and performance horse sale is in full swing this week at Tamworth, NSW.

After a record-breaking event last year, the Nutrien Classic is back for its 16th year and results are already nudging the incredible results recorded in 2022

At the end of day one, more than 75% of lots were sold at an average of $39,391.89.

The top price of $400,000 was achieved by Ducktacular, a 5yo mare by Metallic Cat out of Dashing Duckling. She was started late by Queensland trainer Mark Buttsworth due to John Brekleman’s passing in 2019 and is also half-sister to one of the highest money earning mares in Australia, Ducks Dux.

“This has been an incredible year with fantastic sales results, led by outstanding competitions throughout the week. There were more than 1,100 Campdraft competitors this year and around 550 horses up for sale,” says Mike Rowland, Nutrien Ag Solutions.

The National Campdraft Council of Australia Champion Rider has also been crowned, with Rob Leach on Peelvale Truce taking out the 2023 title.

“Our business is based around the Nutrien Classic, so to win this one is an incredible achievement. This Classic allows us to make a living in an industry we love,” says Rob Leach.

The sale action continues at the Australian Equine and Livestock Events Centre (AELEC) over the weekend.
