Southern NSW pasture agronomy trial visit

Agronomists and staff from across southern NSW recently visited Nutrien's trial site, located at ‘Evandale’ Sutton Forest for a southern agronomy team meeting.

Nutrien Ag Solutions Moss Vale Agronomist, Tim Tarlinton, led the session with the support of various supplier representatives.

“Ultimately, well-fed pastures equal well-fed animals, so our focus on good pastures aims to optimise livestock performance, which drives business profitability,” said Tim.

“These trials give us an opportunity to evaluate different varieties to assess their suitability to the area and their potential impact on things such as fertility programs and dry matter production. From there we can make varietal selections to identify the best in pasture genetics, how to grow it and how to use it to boost the productivity and profitability for farmers.

“More than 20 agronomists from across our network joined the demonstration where we discussed a whole range of factors driving livestock production systems, fodder production, fodder quality and general animal performance.

“There are so many new choices and options to consider, plus important upgrades in genetics and technologies, so these trials and group meetings that focus on assessing and understanding each option’s performance are crucial before we support our farmers to utilise these varieties,” said Tim.
